2013

If you get rid of unfair practices,

Quit blaming victims,

Quit gossiping about other people’s sins,

If you are generous with the hungry

And start giving yourselves to the down and out,

Your lives will begin to glow in the darkness,

Your shadowed lives will be bathed in sunlight.

I will always show you where to go.

I’ll give you a full life in the emptiest places__

Isaiah 58:9-10

The light of Christ has led the way of Holy Trinity this past year.  We have continued to find ways both old and new to help the homeless, the hungry, and the downtrodden to find respite and comfort.  We continue to help All Saints’ Food Pantry, to give so that the broken may have shoes as they walk the streets of New York.  We continued to use our resources to help churches and people who were still recovering from Sandy and we rejoice that St Barnabas was able to rededicate their church this year.

We rejoice that we again were able to offer two weeks of Vacation Bible School and we thank Sue Downey for all the work that she did to make it a great year once again.  Thank-yous go to all those who worked during our VBS weeks.  Our Sunday School has seen it numbers grow and the joyous faces are a blessing to us all.  We thank Katie and all the teachers for everything that they are doing to make it such a wonderful time for all.

Diane Gilroy is our rock when it comes to our older youth and it is a tribute to her dedication to our youth that we have 20+ kids coming on Saturdays.  Through Diane’s work we were able to send several youth to Pinecrest once again and hope that through their participation we will have even more go next year.

Peter has found the inner voice in a dedicated choir which have improved to the point that a few weeks ago they sang acapella-bravo!  Our choir participated in the Christmas Concert at Christ Fresh Meadows and if I may say were the best.  It is wonderful to hear praises to God be lifted up by such loving voices.

Many things were done around the church to make sure that we can continue to serve the community.  We replace our front sign with a new electronic sign.  We bought new pew cushions and kneelers and are having new doors designed and built for our main entrances.  On rally day many people volunteered to help paint the gym which had not been painted in 14 years.  We waterproofed the bell tower, begun to paint the hallway between the buildings, and priced replacing the plexiglass over our stained glass windows.  It always amazes me how much Rich can get done in a year-thanks to you and all your volunteers.

We were blessed with five baptisms and mourn the loss of four members.  We also celebrate the reception of six people by affirmation of baptism.  We also were blessed by a growing worship attendance though not by much it still was in the right direction.

We continued to be busy church with many activities.  We had a very successful spring event (Murder at the Movie Premier), a great St Patrick’s day with homemade pastrami, a Mai Fest with sauerbraten and our annual Oktoberfest with brats and all the fixings.  All these events help us maintain our budget but it you generous giving that is the core of our financial support.

We continued our First Sunday of the month dinners and healing services and as usual had a wonderful Ethnic dinner.  After one year without a pancake breakfast we will be again hosting and helping to raise monies for the St Greg’s Community Counseling Center.  Thanks go out to all those who help in all of our many events.  Without you we would not be able to do so much for the community and our church.

God has blessed our congregation in so many ways and we are thankful that we are able to serve the community and the people around us in so many ways.  If we continue to remember that through our generous and selfless love we can make the world a better place and by so doing God’s light will shine not only on us but on those who sit in deep darkness praying for the light of a new day.
