FOR ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 13th, 2008

10:00 AM

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..." is the opening line of Charles Dickens' novel the Tale of Two Cities and it fits where we are at Holy Trinity. As our nation enters into a recession we at Holy Trinity have begun to feel the pinch. We have had to withdraw $25,000 from our reserves to meet our budgetary needs. Part of this is because of ongoing repairs to our heating system, which were not anticipated, but some of our financial woes were because of a drop in Sunday attendance over the year as well as lower revenues from our spring fund raiser. During the year several faithful families moved out of the Bellerose area and others found it harder to come to church because of health concerns. Because of this our average Sunday attendance for the year is only 78 while our attendance in 2006 was 93 and in 2007, 86.

These trend lines will need to be reversed if we are to flourish as a congregation. Holy Trinity has embarked on a method of renewal which will bring us back from this valley. The good news is that we as a congregation are up to the task. We have continued our VBS program with much energy and it has become the program to enroll your child in if you live in the area. Thanks to Sue Downey and her staff for all the hard work. Diane Gilroy has revitalized our Jr. /Sr. High youth group and we are very proud of all she has done. Our Kid's Club has gotten off to a rousing start this year with 18 kids meeting every Wednesday at 5:30 for games, stories, and a meal. Joan Best and Carol Robinson are in charge of this expanding ministry at Holy Trinity.

But our newest adventure may be our most exciting. We have begun a 40 week study of Rick Warren's book The Pwpose Driven Life. The study meets every Wednesday at 10:00 AM and at 7:30 PM and we have enrolled more than 20 adults in the classes.

Though we do not always agree with the theology of Pastor Warren and give his book a decidedly Lutheran take, what I find exciting is that we are engaging in real ministry to others and that we have found a way to pray together for the needs of those who are our brothers and sisters. I have learned much and am privileged to meet with such caring and loving members of our community.

We have also formed a chancel renovation committee which is working to enhance our worship life by revisioning our chancel and how we worship. The committee met with a Church interior designer who gave us a lot to think about but because of the cost could not at this time be brought on board. We are planning to do some temporary improvements in the next few weeks and hope to bring a more detailed proposal to the congregation sometime in 2009.

Worship has also been an area in which changes have been made. During September and October our early service had as its theme "Fearless Living"- a six week thematic service rather than a lectionary based service. Though we had to learn some new hymns and get used to clapping our hands I think it was worth the effort and we might experiment with this style of worship again.

Amidst all these new and exciting things there were the normal things that make Holy Trinity such an exciting and busy place. We continue to have our First Sunday of the month Dinner preceded by our Healing Service. We continue to gather for Young at

MINUTES OF THE ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING HOLY TRINITY EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH BELLEROSE,   NEW YORK

NOVEMBER 18, 2007

The Annual Congregational Meeting of Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church of Bellerose was held on Sunday, November 18, 2007. Pastor Gary Schulz opened the meeting with a prayer.

Nancy Cutrone, President of the Congregational Council, called the meeting to order at 10:00

A.M. in the church sanctuary. There were 48 members present.

John Daxland, Pam Entis, Sue Henyan and Sue Viscardi were appointed tellers should it be necessary to count ballots.

The minutes of the meeting held on November 20, 2006 were included in the reports distributed prior to the meeting. A motion was made, seconded and passed to accept the minutes of said meeting with the following correction: Lee Poje was appointed a teller..

Pastor's Report

Pastor referred to his report and stated that this year was again a busy one as Holy Trinity continued its programs and activities as well as taking on some new challenges.

We have started collecting food for All Saints' food pantry and have already made several substantial donations. We are also continuing to work on giving to the World Hunger Appeal.

Our Day Camp was very successful this year. Pastor expressed special thanks to Jennifer Hirsch for doing such a wonderful job of coordinating this program. Our Thursday afternoon Youth Club has also been a success and is well attended.

The Young at Heart program now meets twice a month and is well attended. Our craft group and knitting group also continue to meet and provide opportunities for members and friends to gather.

Our book club, movie matinee Saturdays, yoga classes and Bible studies continue regularly.

Due to ongoing budget concerns, we have been finding new ways to supplement our regular giving. This year we enjoyed a Mystery Dinner and added a square dance and caller to our annual pasta dinner. Our annual Oktoberfest was also successful.

We have begun the process of learning new liturgies and hymns as we grow accustomed to ELCA's newest hymnal.

We still have many things to prepare for. Funding to expand our day camp and youth club has been requested and a committee is being formed to look into renovating the chancel area of the church.

Pastor concluded by thanking everyone for their support and their work at Holy Trinity. Special thanks went to Joan Best for all of her work with Young at Heart.

Treasurer's Report

Tom Weickert presented the unaudited Treasurer's report for the nine months ending September 30, 2007. The report included a summary of all accounts as of September 30, 2007, including the current investment accounts and current designated accounts. Tom then briefly explained the proposed 2008 budget line by line.

Social I Fundraising Committee Report

The committee continually tries to bring a combination of fellowship opportunities and fundraising opportunities to members of Holy Trinity and the community. We are trying new ideas and making slight changes to traditional events to keep Holy Trinity fresh and exciting.   All suggestions and comments are welcome.

We started the year off with our annual Pasta dinner and brought back the popular Square Dance in January. We immediately followed this with the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper - always a winner and the Agape meal on Holy Thursday. With great

anticipation we had our favorite Ascension Day dinner with Pastor's Meatloaf. The monthly Sunday dinners in conjunction with the healing services also continued to bring together the congregation to share a meal and some fellowship. The spring brought not only warmer weather but our Roaring 20's Speakeasy with a great band and some authentic dancers. Our traditional and ever popular Maifest followed. That, of course, was not all the meals the congregation shared. We can't forget the brunches on Palm Sunday, Mother's Day and Father's day

The heat of the summer and a very warm day in July brought us 'Treasures from the Attic', we earned some money as many people were generous in cleaning out many contributor's attics, basements and garages. Everything went!

Many members participated in the HTLC sponsored cruise to Bermuda.   A wonderful time was had not only by members of Holy Trinity but other members of the community in a beautiful setting; we had a great opportunity to share good times and build   memories.

h.

We didn't slow down as the leaves started falling. Rally Day Picnic is always well received and great fun as the new Sunday school year began. September brought us 'Game night' as we gathered to play games such as 'Disney's Scene It', and the ever exciting 'Uno Attack'. October brought the traditional Oktoberfest with the always anticipated raffles; immediately followed by the Pastor's Cook-off and an unconventional Tupperware Party.    The year is not over and neither are we, Holy Trinity will once again host the Community Counseling Center pancake breakfast on November 301

We look forward to an exciting and profitable 2009, and the privilege of providing additional opportunities for fellowship and the resources necessary to share our faith with the community.
